Advanced Wound Therapies

Hyperbaric Oxygen:
A New Treatment Option for Diabetic Foot Wounds

Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) treatments utilize a specially designed chamber that increases levels of oxygen in the bloodstream to aid in the healing process of diseased or damaged tissue. This treatment is used in combination with comprehensive wound care to improve healing.

Typically, patients will receive treatments 5 days a week for a total of 20 to 30 treatments. Each treatment lasts approximately two hours from start to finish. The HBO chambers are equipped with video and audio capabilities, which allows patients to enjoy watching movies or listening to music, providing them with a more comfortable healing environment.

Wound VAC

The wound VAC (vacuum-assisted closure) is a sponge-like dressing covered with an air-tight seal that is attached to a portable vacuum. The wound VAC is used to remove excess fluid in the wound and promote healing in the tissue.

The vacuum unit operates continuously and may be conveniently worn on the patient’s hip. The length of treatment varies by wound and can range from two weeks to one month.

Skin Substitutes
Skin substitutes are living cells that have been grown from human skin that are applied directly to the wound to help stimulate wound healing and aid in the growth of your own skin. Skin substitutes are similar to skin grafts, but because there is no surgical procedure involved, there is little risk of infection or rejection.

This procedure is done in the office. The skin substitute is applied over the wound and is naturally absorbed into your own skin as the wound heals.
